One week left to qualify for school board positions

With just a week left to qualify, one school board position still has no official candidate.
Lincoln County Circuit Clerk Dustin Bairfield said no paperwork has been filed for the Lincoln County School District board position representing the Bogue Chitto area. However, he said he has spoken to potential candidates who have picked up the packet and he expects each position to have at least one person qualify.
In November, three school board positions will be open for election. The Brookhaven School District has a position open that will represent those who live outside of the city limits but within the school district. Stan Patrick currently holds that position. Lucy Shell is currently the only person to qualify for that position.
The Lincoln County School District has two positions, one representing Bogue Chitto and one representing West Lincoln. They are currently represented by Ricky Welch and Jack Case, respectively. Ben Burns is the only person to qualify for West Lincoln’s district at this time.
Candidates have until Friday at 5 p.m. Their paperwork must include 50 signatures from registered voters in their district. Because the signatures must be validated by the Circuit Clerk’s office, Bairfield recommends not waiting until the end of Friday to file the paperwork.
