PEARL — Three Mobile pitchers combined to shutout the Mississippi Braves and lead the BayBears to a 7-0 victory Thursday evening at Trustmark Park. Despite outhitting the BayBears 11-to-9, the Braves left 15 men on base and could not capitalize. The series continues Friday at 7 p.m.

Braden Shipley (7-8) tossed six shutout innings for the BayBears to pick up the win. He gave up nine hits while fanning four batters. Jimmie Sherfy worked two scoreless innings in relief before giving way to Adam Miller (S, ) for the final frame.

Mississippi (16-11, 49-46) out hit the BayBears 11-to-9 but Mobile (16-10, 50-45) plated seven runs while holding the Braves scoreless. Eric Garcia led the Braves at the plate, going 3-for-4 at the plate. KD Kang and Levi Hyams each added two hits.

The BayBears took a 1-0 lead in the first when Sean Jamieson singled and scored on a Jack Reinheimer double to left field.

Mississippi loaded the bases in the second but did not score. Eric Garcia led off the third with a double but was thrown out at the plate when KD Kang tripled to right field.

Socrates Brito singled with one out in the sixth. Zach Borenstein then blasted a two-run homer into the Farm Bureau Grill, extending the BayBears lead to 3-0.

In the seventh, Tom Belza singled and Jamieson and Reinheimer drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Brito then delivered a bases-clearing triple to right field, putting Mobile out front 6-0.

Mobile tacked on another run in the ninth to make it 7-0. Stewart Ijames hit a ground-rule double and moved to third on a ground out. He then came in to score on Reinheimer’s sacrifice fly to right field.

Victor Mateo (6-6) gave up three earned runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out one batter in six innings of work.

The M-Braves send right-hander Stephen Janas (1-2, 3.86) to the hill against BayBears righty Edgar Garcia (1-0, 5.72). First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
