Lincoln County residents on Monday gathered in front of the Brookhaven/Lincoln County Government Complex to pay their respects to those who’ve died while serving during times of war.

The ceremony included the presentation of colors by the Patriot Guard, singing of the National Anthem by Natalie McKenzie and the Pledge of Allegiance led by local Boy Scout Troop 119.

The invocation for the event was led by Rev. W. A. Matthews, who described how the American Legion and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post placed 3,000 flags over the graves of soldiers throughout Lincoln County.

Sen. Sally Doty, R-Brookhaven, was the speaker for the event followed by a remembrance ceremony and laying of the wreath – by Billy Hughes and Rev. Ray Glass – at the foot of the memorial that stands at the front of the complex.

“For those who never left the battlefield, we lift them up here in Lincoln County,” Doty said.
