Tyler McLeod is taking his baseball talents to the next level. Wesson’s shortstop has signed a baseball scholarship with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves.
McLeod, a right-hander, signed his official scholarship papers Wednesday morning in the Wesson’s Old Gym Auditorium. He is the son of Maleeda Martin and Casey Martin.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play baseball at Co-Lin,” said McLeod. “It is a great blessing to be able to play ball close to home.”
McLeod mentioned that he wants to pursue a career in kinesiology.
In his senior for the Cobras, McLeod batted .481 on the season. He accounted for 31 RBI, six home runs and 10 doubles.
McLeod shared his thoughts on Wesson’s season. “We had a really great season. We managed to beat teams that were really good during the season. We also managed to get hot at the right time and made a amazing run through the playoffs.
The Cobras (17-6) advanced to the third round of the Class 3A State baseball playoffs before being eliminated by the St. Andrews Saints in Game Three last Friday night at Wesson.
“Tyler has been such a pleasure to coach,” said Wesson baseball coach Seth Lofton. “I am very proud for Tyler and his teammates for the season that they have accomplished. I’m looking forward to see him compete on Co-Lin’s staff next year.”
