Funeral services for Martha Belle Huffman Monte of Natchez are Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. James Hunsucker will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Lynn Burlison, Don Boyte, Billy Martin Jr., Monte Martin, Wyatt Martin and Michael Springs. Honorary pallbearer will be Hunter Boyte.

Visitation was Monday, May 4, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. and will continue Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Monte, 90, of Natchez, died on Friday, May 1, 2015, at Meadville Convalescent Home. She was born Oct. 14, 1924, in Natchez to Charles Shaw Huffman and Martha Elizabeth Kittling Huffman.

Her hobbies were crocheting and sewing. She taught her four girls to crochet, some caught on and some didn’t. Mrs. Monte made all her girls clothes and taught them to sew with flour sacks. She loved to fish at their ponds and caught a big bass and had it mounted. She even named it Fred. Mrs. Monte loved her horse Elinor for a very long time, however, when her health declined they had to sell her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Otello Charles Monte; three brothers, Charles, Bill and John Huffman; one grandson, Charles “Chip” Lloyd Lofton; two son-in-laws, Harvey “did” Prather Jr. and Buddy Risinger.

Survivors are her four daughters, Martha “ Dump” Allbritton and husband, Bob, of Brookhaven, Carrie “Tensey” Boyte and husband, John, of Natchez, Mildred “Weese” Prather of Meadville and Mary Risinger of Carthage, Texas; nine grandchildren, Michael Springs, Stephanie Wilson, Don Boyte, Melissa Martin, Elizabeth Wells, Lynn Burlison, Stacey Allbritton, Jolene Poole and Darlene Roberts; 35 great-great-grandchildren, four great-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Katherine Ogle of Shreveport.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice.
