Peavey sets SWAC record

LORMAN – Scottie Peavey set a SWAC record over the weekend by hitting a home run in five straight games.
The Ole Brook product now has nine home runs on the season and leads the team in batting average with a .344 average.
Alcorn State swept Mississippi Valley State over the weekend to collect a berth into the SWAC Tournament, May 13-17 in New Orleans.
The Braves got a complete game from pitcher Colton Laird, a Franklin County native in game one of the series. Laird struck out two and walked two in notching the win.
Both Peavey and Laird are seniors on the Braves roster, after the Junior College ranks. Laird pitched at Baton Rouge Community College before joining the Alcorn State Staff and Peavey was at NW Florida CC before signing with the Braves.
Alcorn State plays host to Arkansas Pine – Bluff on Friday in Lorman at 2, for its final regular season game.
