Very few are able to hit the 100-year milestone, but one Ruth woman reached it Monday.

Veta Grace Reeves celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday at Topisaw Baptist Church. There to share in her celebration were family members and friends from the Topisaw Baptist Church community and as well as the Ruth community.

“The celebration was a dinner at Topisaw Baptist Church where she had many nieces and nephews and friends that attended,” Terry Sandifer, who has been taking care of Reeves with her husband for more than 10 years now, said.

Reeves still lives in the Ruth home she and her husband Paul Reeves built in 1958. She and Paul were married for 51 years and had two children: a son, Liam Reeves who lives in Marshall, Virginia, and a daughter, Martha Lou Reeves who died in 1954. Reeves has two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

For more than 20 years Reeves worked at Stahl Urban in Brookhaven. She’s a member of Topisaw Baptist Church and has been for more than 50 years where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and participated in the WMU, the church’s women’s mission organization.

“She loves her church family and pastor, David Moree,” Sandifer said. “She’s been an inspiration to all of Topisaw through her prayer life; she’s a prayer warrior.”
