Lady Hornets destroy Bassfield

BASSFIELD – The Loyd Star Lady Hornets destroyed the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets 21-1 in fastpitch softball action Tuesday night to remain undefeated in Region 7-2A action.
The Lady Hornets (14-2, 7-0) are schedule to be in action today as they host the Enterprise Lady Jackets for their final division test of the season. Junior varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Hornets came out and quickly destroyed the Lady Yellowjackets of Bassfield in three innings of action.
Loyd Star scored six runs in the first inning, and continued to blast Bassfield with a strong nine run surge in the second inning, before ending the contest in the third inning with another six run explosion.
Ali Gartman provided a strong pitching performance in the circle for Loyd Star. Gartman gave up only one run in a two hit to Bassfield in the shutout, while collecting four strikeouts and did not give up a walk. Kelsie McCullough also saw action in the pitching circle as she pitched one inning in relief and had two strikeouts and no walks.
Johnna Norman and Gartman powered the Lady Hornets’ offensive onslaught at the plate with two singles apiece. Kaylea Smith contributed a triple. Hitting safely were Madison Jones, Brooks Rushing, Kelsie McCullough and Abagail Thornton.
In junior varsity action, the Loyd Star Lady Hornets blanked the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets 12-0.
Aly Floyd earned the victory for the Lady Hornets with two strikeouts and no walks. Marley Poole (1K, 1BB) and Johnna Norman (2K, 0BB) pitched a inning in relief.
Kaylea Smith paced the Lady Hornets offense with a home run. Tabby Wyant, Marley Poole, Meagan Poole and Lesley Walker hit safely.
