Bogue Chitto wins their sixth straight Class 1A South State crown

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats powerlifting team won their sixth straight South State Championship last Saturday in the Class 1A powerlift at Loyd Star. Bogue Chitto had nine lifter lifting in the meet and they were able to mustard enough points to squeak past McAdams.
BC finished first with a total of 42 points, McAdams earned second with a total of 39 points, and Coffeeville placed third with a total of 35 points.
“I am proud of the kids hard work and dedication in our continuing our success to win a sixth straight South State Championship,” said Bouge Chitto head powerlifting coach Chad Norton.
The Bobcats came into the event as defending South State Champions so everybody was gunning to end BC’s reign, but the Bobcats stood strong and proudly came home with the South State Championship once again.
It was no big deal for the Bobcats because they knew going into the meet of what they had to do. Coach Norton stated, “Now we have to continue to work to improve for the state meet.” The State meet will be in Jackson, MS Coliseum on April 18th.
The Bobcats had several first place winners; the first one was Josh Richardson in the 114-pound class. One his first attempt in squat he was able to get 185 pounds. That was too easy for him so he finished his squat amount at 220 pounds. In bench press Josh was able to end up with a 115 attempt. In the last event of the class was deadlift and Josh was able to pull 265 pounds to beat his opponent Clayton Nowell for Sacred Heart by 50 pounds. Michal Rayborn from Bogue Chitto was in the same weight class as Josh. Rayborn was able to get 170 on the squat, 110 on bench press, and 215 on deadlift. Rayborn was able to lift enough to get in third place. Both of these lifters will be advancing to the State meet in Jackson in April.
In the 123-pound class, BC had two lifters that went first and second place in the class. Dakota McGary was able to do 215 on squat, 125 on bench press, and 365 of deadlift to have a grand total of 705 pounds. The second place finisher Sean Lee Matthews was able to do 185 lbs on squat, 110 lbs on bench press, and 245 lbs on deadlift to have a grand total of 540 pounds. Both of these lifters for the Bobcats are advancing to the State meet.
In the 148 pound class, Bogue Chitto also had two lifters that placed second and fourth place. Kobe Roberts got second place by doing a 360-pound squat, a 175 pound bench press, and a 430 pound deadlift to have a grand total of 965 pounds. Nick Parker did not have a day he wanted to have. Nick was able to mustard up a few good lifts. Nick had a 250-pound squat, a 135 pound bench press, and a 385 pound deadlift to have a grand total of 860 pounds.
In the 220 pound weight class the Bobcats had two lifters to place second and fourth. Devin McEwen, for the Bobcats, was able to do a 470-pound squat, a 255 pound bench press, and a 515 pound squat to get a grand total of 1240 pounds. Devin attempted a 540 pound deadlift to get first but was not able to lift it completely to take first. Tyler Tillman, for the Bobcats, was able to do a 275 pound squat, a 180 pound bench press, and a 345 pound deadlift to have a grand total of 800 pounds. Devin McEwen will advance to the state meet.
In the 275 pound weight class ,Bogue Chitto would have one lifter to place in the fourth place. Hayden Burton was able to do a 315-pound squat, a 220 pound bench press, and a 415 pound deadlift to have a grand total of 950 pounds.
In the super heavy weight class, the Bobcats had Davaris Bullock to place second. He was able to squat 410, he bench pressed 235, and he dead lifted 415 to get a grand total of 1135 pounds. Davaris Bullock will advance to the state meet.
