DECATUR – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College men’s tennis team defeated the East Central Community College Warriors 7-2 in tennis action yesterday.

Three hotly contested singles matches came down to tie breakers. The most exciting match came at No. 2 singles with Co-Lin freshman Will Pennington defeating East Central’s Javon Yarbrough 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-2. After dropping the first set, freshmen Braxton Hinton of Brookhaven rallied to defeat Cole Duty 2-6, 7-5 10-8 at No. 3. At No. 5 singles, freshman Drake Nelson of Monticello defeated Devin Skinner 6-2, 3-6, 10-8.

Sophomores Dwain Perkins of Natchez and Coleman Carraway had easier times in their matches. Perkins disposed of Juan Miranda 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and Carraway took care of Alex Chapman 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.

In doubles action, Perkins/Pennington defeated Miranda/Strong 8-5 at No. 1 and Hinton/Nelson took care of Yarbrough/Skinner 8-6.

East Central picked up wins at No. 3 doubles as Duty/Chapman defeated Nettles/Carraway 8-4. In singles action, East Central’s Robert Strong defeated Brandon Nettles 7-5, 6-2.

Co-Lin travels to Ellisville to take on Jones on March 20 beginning at 1 p.m.
