Three Mamie Martin Elementary students were involved in a scare last Friday in which officials say a couple attempted to coax them off campus.
According to a police report, Mamie Martin’s assistant principal told police Friday afternoon that a white male with brown hair and a goatee approached three students.
The man was said to be in a small white vehicle located on Crider Drive, on the north side of campus. Police were told that a female was also in the vehicle.
The officers were told the man tried to coach the young girls closer to the fence lining the school’s playground. He also tried to get them to come over the fence. However, no student left campus.
Officers were also told there could have been a handgun in the vehicle as well. No one was injured in the incident.
Bell said the day of the incident officers searched the area and could not come up with a vehicle that matched the description given to them. Since then officers have been patrolling the school and all other schools to ensure that it will not happen again.
“I think the school took the right precaution by keeping students inside the rest of the day,” Bell said.
Bell said no further leads have turned up in the ongoing investigation, and they are still unaware of exactly what kind of make and model the vehicle was.
