Senior center provides activities for all

Q: What kinds of classes and activities are offered at the Jimmy Furlow Senior Center?
A: The largest event happening at the Furlow Center this month is the Senior Prom scheduled for Feb. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. Anyone over the age of 50 is invited. The Furlow Center’s office will close that day at noon.
Other programs offered monthly are beginner and advanced computer classes, fitness classes, meetings and card and game groups. Fitness classes include Senior stretch which seeks to help senior citizens develop strength and enhance their ability to function in daily life and line dancing taught by Sharon Langley the fist three Mondays of the month at 9 a.m.
Fitness classes also includes Chair Yoga serving as a beginner yoga class for seniors, the Dixie Dancers who square dance every Friday night at 7 p.m. and Round Dance classes Monday and Tuesday of each week at 5 p.m. except for when Neighborhood Watch meets on the 3rd Monday.
The Furlow Center houses meeting space for the Money Makers Investment group every first Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the game room, the Homemakers Club every second Monday at 2 p.m., TRIAD every second Tuesday at 11 a.m. and a Retired Teachers group every second Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. Other groups include an Ebony Women’s Club every third Wednesday at 1 p.m., American Legion every second Thursday at 2 p.m. and AARP meetings every third Thursday at 2 p.m.
Card and game groups that meet for game time at the Furlow Center consists of a Bridge group, Cardsharks, Happy Fours, Players, Paradise Sams and Canasta. Contact Kail Garrett at 601-835-5076 for questions regarding meetings or classes offered.
