Q: What is happening with the building construction on West Chickasaw Street?
A: The property at 131 West Chickasaw Street is a realty property whose sale is being handled by Hobbs Realty. Founder and owner Lyle Hobbs said the structure is his latest project. The house, which he said was in poor structural shape, is going through a restructuring and remodel to bring back the character it once had.
“I specialize in real estate sale, but I like side projects,” Hobbs said.
The property had been on sale for a year and a half, Hobbs said, and the sellers knew that Hobbs did this sort of thing so together they decided to go ahead and restructure the building.
Some of the changes going on at the house include knocking down walls, roof work, a new fence, exterior siding work and exterior yard work. Hobbs said behind the house there was a tin building which they are giving a cosmetic face lift to make it more attractive.
“It’s an exciting project because it has characteristics,” Hobbs said. “We’re opening up the floor plans to make it more modern.”
Hobbs said he specializes in residential, commercial, industrial, recreational property and land sales. He founded his company in 1985, spending the first five years in Jackson and the past 25 years in Brookhaven. He said that in the last 20 to 30 years he’s built 10 houses and restored about 10 to 15, all being resold. Plus every house that he has built and restored he’s had a part in the construction, working alongside the construction crew.
This current project began in December, and Hobbs expects construction to take around six months.
