Lawrence Co. splits with North Pike

MONTICELLO – Lawrence County and North Pike split a Division 7-4A basketball double-header Friday night at LCHS. In girls’ action, North Pike’s Rickera Martin exploded for 32 points in a 70-60 Lady Jaguar win. In the boys’ game, Lawrence County clawed out a 59-44 win.
The girls’ game was dominated by the hot shooting of Martin. The senior standout poured in 16 first-quarter points and 24 in the first half. Martin connected on six three-pointers in the game.
North Pike led 37-27 at the half. Lawrence County scored the first two baskets of the third quarter, to cut the lead to 37-31. After that, North Pike went on a 20-5 run to end the period, and secure the game.
Along with Martin’s 32 points, Latorya Humphries came off the bench to score 15 points, 11 of them in the second half. Sarah Brock added eight points. Lance Golmon’s Lady Jaguars improved to 9-9 with the win and 3-1 in Division 7-4A play.
Vicki Rutland’s Lady Cougars got 18 points from DeNeisha Dickson, and a huge night from freshman forward Camryn Davis. Davis had 15 points, 19 rebounds, 4 steals, and 5 blocked shots. The Lady Cougars fell to 10-10 overall, and 2-3 in the division.
In the boys’ contest, Lawrence County jumped to an early lead and stretched that lead through three quarters. LCHS led by 15, at 46-31, entering the period. Things got interesting in the fourth quarter, however, as North Pike cut the Cougar lead down to four points. Lawrence County ended the game on an 11-0 run.
Keith Davis led Lawrence County with 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Keyshawn Feazell had one of his best nights as a Cougar, with 17 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists. A.J. McLaurin added 12 points.
Lawrence County, coached by Pat Bridges, improved to 13-8 overall and 4-1 in Division 7-4A play. The Cougars finished the first half of the division double round-robin with a firm grip on second place.
Javian Jackson led North Pike with 19 points. The Jaguars, coached by Keith Russ, fell to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in the division.
On Tuesday, Lawrence County will travel to Purvis. North Pike will host South Pike.
