West Lincoln splits with Salem

DEXTER – The West Lincoln Lady Bears and the Salem Wildcats were victorious in basketball action Tuesday afternoon in the opening day of Dexter’s Holiday Tournament.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Bears secured their four win of the season after knocking off the Salem Lady Wildcats 49-41.
In boys’ action, the Salem Wildcats roared past the West Lincoln Bears to claim a 61-43 victory.
West Lincoln returns to action Friday as they travel back to Dexter for the Holiday Tournament as they prepare to take on the hostess, the Dexter Bulldogs in the nightcap. The girls are schedule to tip off at 7 p.m., followed by the boys at 8:30.
West Lincoln 49, Salem 41
The Lady Bears came out and quickly set the tone of the contest in the first quarter with a 14-8 run. West Lincoln managed to stay in control in the second quarter, when the Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Bears 8-7, to take a slim 21-16 lead into halftime.
In the second half of action, the Lady Bears and Lady Wildcats fought back and forth in a defensive battle as West Lincoln won the scoring battle with a 14-13 run in the third quarter and a 14-12 run in the final quarter to claim the win.
“The girls did a great job throughout the game,” said West Lincoln coach Lane Young. “We had a great effort from everyone from all the way around today.”
Hanna Moak powered the Lady Bears (4-9) with a team-high double-double performance of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Alli Mullins chipped in with 12 points and had three assists. Demeshia Deer was the leader on the boards with 11 rebounds and provided nine points. Layton Sills netted eight points and had five assists. Carly Holden added three points.
Zoie Bridges was the top scorer fort the Lady Wildcats with 21 points. Markeria Butler contributed 17 points.
Salem 61, West Lincoln 43
In boys action, the Bears and Wildcats provided a exciting offensive show in the first quarter as Salem secured a slim 13-12 advantage after one quarter of action.
The Wildcats (9-0) managed to gain the upper hand on the Bears in the second quarter with a 13-7 run to take a 26-19 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Salem continued their hot shooting as they extend their lead over West Lincoln with a 18-7 run to secure a 44-26 advantage.
In the final quarter of action, both teams traded baskets as each team score 17 points apiece.
Keshaun London was the top shooter fort he Bears (4-9) with 15 points. Lofton Sills and London lead on the boards with eight rebounds each. Seth Bivens and Ronnie Edwards contributed seven points each. Bivens provided help of the boars with five rebounds.
Donovan Harness paced the Wildcats’ offense with 13 points. Julius Faulk chipped in with 12 points. Bobby Gardner contributed 11 points.
