WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves kept their undefeated season alive after knocking off the Pearl River Lady Wildcats 66-44 Monday night in South Division JUCO action at Mullins Gymnasium.

In the men’s contest, the Pearl Rivers Wildcats also maintain a their perfect record on the season after securing a 66-50 victory over the Co-Lin Wolves.

Co-Lin will take the rest of the week of before resuming action Saturday as they prepare to travel to Delgado, Louisiana to take on the Delgado Dolphins. Women’s action starts at 2 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.

Lady Wolves 66, Lady Wildcats 44 

The Lady Wolves and the Lady Wildcats battled in exciting contest in the first as Co-Lin managed to withstand a late charge by Pearl River to take a 35-27 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Wolves (9-0, 2-0) came out and dominated offensively and defensively as they wore down Pearl River with their strong surge with a 31-17 run to secure the win.

“We did not play very well offensively in the first half,” said Co-Lin women coach Gwyn Young. “In the second half, we played a lot better both offensively and defensively. The girls executed our game plan and we managed to wear down Pearl River’s energy to secure the win.”

Caroline Lumpkin was the offensive leader for the Lady Wolves with 13 points and five rebounds to lead four players in double figures. Arnissayur Robinson contributed 12 points. Kelley Allen and Jamilah Sanders chipped in with 10 points apiece. Allen powered the boards with nine rebounds.

Vamikka Smith was the top shooter for the Lady Wildcats (6-3, 1-1) with nine points. Shanique Magee netted eight points. Essence Pulliam and Shaniqua Quinn provided seven points each. Pulliam lead on the boards with eight rebounds.

Pearl River 66, Co-Lin 50 

In the men’s contest, the Wildcats and Wolves (2-7, 0-2) fought hard in exciting defensive battle as the score remained close until late in the first half, when Pearl River made an offensive surge to take a 34-19 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams came out scoring offensively, but Pearl River’s lead was to much for the Wolves to overcome as the Wildcats (9-0, 2-0) edge Co-Lin 32-31 to capture the win.

“We struggle throughout the whole game offensively,” said Co-Lin men coach Kenny Bizot. “Our defense played really well, but we just could not hit our shots. Overall, we still have a lot to work on to get better.”

Joe Shelby and Donte Watson were the top scorers for the Wolves with nine points each. Chris Williams contributed eight points. Watson powered the boards with seven rebounds.

Malik Clemmins pumped in a game-high 11 points to lead the Wildcats. Cortez Mitchell and Laderrick Scott chipped in with 10 points each. Darralyn Willis, John Cornish and Scott were the leaders on the boards with five rebounds apiece.
