WESSON – Co-Lin coach Glenn Davis and his Wolves entered into Thursday night South Division JUCO contest with a lot on the line as they welcomed the Jones County Bobcats to Stone Stadium in a winner takes all/loser stay home situation in the final regular season game.

The Wolves came out a little sluggish to start the contest but managed to regain their focus throughout the rest of the game to outscore the Bobcats 33-14 to secure a 40-28 victory to win the 2014 South Division crown and enter into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed out of the south.

“It was great to get the victory and win district,” said Davis. “I am extremely proud of the guys and thanked the coaches for all of their hard work. We started the season with two early losses but came together to five straight, The south division is very tough and to win five straight is a big accomplishment for everyone. I am very thankful to win the division, but now we must regroup and start preparing for the playoffs.”

Prior to the opening kickoff, Co-Lin and Jones County fans pack out Stone Stadium to cheer on their favorite teams in this huge final regular season game.

In the opening quarter, the Bobcats came out and quickly set the tone of the contest as they scored on their opening drive as freshmen running back James Milledge punched in a six-yard rushing touchdown to put Jones County on the scoreboard first. Place kicker Cole Byrd finished four-of-four on the extra point kicks for the Bobcats.

Co-Lin quickly bounced back and answered Jones County challenge on their opening drive. The Wolves marched down the field as De’Lance Turner concluded the drive on a 1-yard plunge to tie the game.

Freshmen place kicker Greg Nickels added the extra point and finished four-of-five on the PAT attempts for the night.

On Jones County’s second possession, the Bobcats wanted to keep the pressure on Co-Lin by adding another touchdown to the scoreboard and reclaim the lead at 14-7. Kenny Coleman connected with Rodregua Ducksworth for a 51-yard touchdown reception. Unfortunately, Jones County did not know that would be their last scoring drive in the first half as the Wolves scored 20-unanswered points against the Bobcats.

Nickles started the scoring onslaught in the first quarter after making a 33-yard field goal to cut down the Bobcats lead at 14-10.

Lakedric Lee put the Wolfpack up for good on a 25-yard touchdown run to give Co-Lin a 17-14 advantage after one quarter of action.

In the second quarter, Co-Lin’s defense continued to heat up as they held the Bobcats scoreless through the second frame. The Wolves’ offense would feed off their defensive teammates tempo and scored 10 more points to take a 27-14 lead into halftime.

Co-Lin’s sophomore quarterback Daniel Fitzwater would help his team increase their lead with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Turner.

Nickles capped off Co-Lin’s scoring spree in the second quarter, after making a 23-yard field goal.

In the third quarter, Co-Lin came out and picked up where they left off at from the first half offensively and defensively. Fitzwater continued to pick apart the Bobcats’ defense and collected his second passing touchdown of the night after connecting with Courtney Foy for a 9-yard reception to give the Wolves a 33-14 advantage.

Jones County would finally break through Co-Lin’s strong defensive pressure in the third quarter and score on a Ducksworth’s 44-yard rushing touchdown. After three quarters of action, Co-Lin leads 33-21.

In the final frame of the contest, the Wolves would slowdown the pace of the game by controlling the ball to run the clock. Co-Lin would end up punching in their final touchdown and end the Bobcats’ hopes of a comeback on a Donald Gray 13-yard catch from Fitzwater.

Jones County would cash in their final touchdown late in the fourth quarter as Milledge scramble in a two-yard run.

Offensive, the Wolves ranked up 614 yards total. Fitzwater lead the charge completing 28-of-36 passes for 392 yards. Donald Gray powered the aerial attack with 13 catches for 167 yards. Joshua Bates paced the ground attack with 18 rushes for 102 yards.

Hazlehurst’s Kenny Coleman was the leader on Jones County’s ball club completing 20-of-40 passes for 294 yards. Raymond Crumptor led all receivers with seven catches for 112 yards.

Defensively, Co-Lin held the Bobcats to 444 total yards. Justin Morgan fueled the flames with six tackles and a quarterback sack. Zachary Williams contributed five tackles and a quarterback sack. Lashard Durr provided four tackles.

The Wolves (7-2, 5-1) will be in action next Saturday as they prepare to host the opening round of the JUCO playoffs against the north’s No. 2 seed the Northwest Rangers at Stone Stadium. The game time has not been set but will be release at a later time.
