West Lincoln blanks Wesson

WESSON – The West Lincoln Lady Bears knocked off the Wesson Lady Cobras to win 8-0 in an non-divisional make-up game Monday night in slowpitch softball.
“The girls hit the ball really well tonight,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “This is a special group of girls that really enjoys playing with each other, and I am truly proud of their efforts.”
The Lady Cobras (8-10, 3-0) continue action today as they host their region foe the Crystal Springs Lady Tigers. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6 p.m.
The Lady Bears (19-1, 5-0) returns to action Thursday as they prepare to welcome the Puckett Lady Wolves for a big division test. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.
W. Lincoln 8, Wesson 0
West Lincoln came out strong and quickly set the tone of the contest in the first inning as they secured a 3-0 lead and relied on their defense to keep the Lady Cobras’ offense in check throughout the contest.
The Lady Bears added to their lead in third and fourth innings with two runs each for a commanding 7-0 advantage and later scored again in the seventh inning for a 8-0 win.
The Lady Cobras did make several attempts to rally back but were unable to push a run across the plate to break up West Lincoln’s shut out.
Makennah Redd was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears with no strikeouts and one walk.
Riley Smith suffered the setback on the mound for Wesson with one strikeout and one walk.
Makennah Redd powered the Lady Bears at the plate with a home run and two singles. Hanna Moak continued to fuel the flames with a home run and a single. Malori Hall contributed a double and two singles. Peyton White provided two singles. Micah Redd had a double. Hitting safely were Alli Mullins, Millane Lewis and Layton Sills.
The Lady Cobras were led on offense by Kayla Britt, Cheyenne Gladden, Harmoni Ashley, Kaitlyn Smith, Aurianna Vaughn and Katherine Wilson with a single each.
“We are currently experiencing a roller coaster season,” said Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery. “Some days we hit the ball really well and other days we just loose our confidence at the plate. Hopefully we can rebound and get our confidence back quickly at the plate as we start our second round of district today.”
In junior varsity action, West Lincoln defeated Wesson 6-2.
McKenzie Pyles collects the win for West Lincoln with three strikeouts and three walks. Riley Smith absorbed the setback for Wesson with three strikeouts and two walks.
Jana Case paced the Lady Bears’ offense with a home run. Sarah Jane Doty, Megan Gerald and Ashley Thomas provided a double apiece. Morgan Newman and Abigail Edwards hit safely.
Smith was the top hitter for the Lady Cobras with a double. Madison Boleware and McKenzie Dooley hit a single each.
