WESSON – The Wolfpack returns to Wesson on Thursday as Copiah-Lincoln hosts the East Central Warriors in Stone Stadium. Co-Lin, ranked No. 20 in the latest NJCAA Top 20 Poll, looks to pick up their first MACJC South Division win of the season.

Last week the Wolfpack (2-2, 0-1) suffered a 45-35 loss at Southwest in their division opener. Co-Lin came into that game ranked No. 9 but trailed the Bears from the opening kick after Southwest ran it back for a 96-yard touchdown. Things wouldn’t improve much for Co-Lin as they trailed 20-0 after one quarter and 27-14 at halftime. Co-Lin quarterback Daniel Fitzwater went 20-for-42 against Southwest for 385 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. Wide receiver Donald Gray, a Mississippi State commit, caught two passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Courtney Foy caught seven passes for 90 yards and Wesson Attendance Center product Koy McFarland snagged five passes for 76 yards.

Against Southwest the Co-Lin defense got 10 tackles from linebacker Zachary Williams. Fellow linebacker Justin Morgan posted eight tackles. Arthur Maulet and Lashard Durr each intercepted a pass for Co-Lin. Punter Trent Furr was a bright spot for Co-Lin against the Bears. Furr punted seven times for 269 yards, averaged 38.4 yards per kick and downed three punts inside the 20-yard line.

East Central is coming off of a 14-6 win over Holmes last week. The Warriors are led by second year head coach Ken Karcher. East Central has already doubled their win total from 2013 when they finished 1-8 and averaged less than nine points per game. The strength of the 2014 Warriors has been a defense that is giving up 19 points per game. East Central lost 35-7 to Gulf Coast in their South Division opener.

The Wolfpack took a 23-0 victory over East Central last season in Decatur and have won five straight over the Warriors.

The game will serve as the annual Coach To Cure MD game for Co-Lin. Now celebrating its seventh year, Coach To Cure MD seeks to raise awareness and money to fund research for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the most prolific lethal genetic disorder of childhood. During this week of college football thousands of college coaches, including the Co-Lin coaching staff, will be wearing Coach To Cure MD shoulder patches on the sidelines to help raise awareness of the program. There will be a donation bucket located under the tent at the entrance of the stadium and you can also donate $5 by texting the word “Cure” to 90999. Kickoff in Stone Stadium is 7 p.m. General admissions tickets are $5 for students and $8 for adults. Co-Lin students get in free with their student ID.
