Lady Cougars beat Jackson Prep

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars captured a victory in the Co-Lin’s MAIS softball tournament at Hansel King Sportsplex Saturday.

The Lady Cougars finished the tournament winning one-of-three. BA failed to Columbia 8-1 in the opener and Copiah Academy 9-3, before beating Jackson Prep in the nightcap 4-2.

The Lady Cougars (11-15, 2-2) will be in action today as they prepare to host the ASC Lady Rebels for a huge district test. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Columbia 8, BA 1 

Alex Rae Smith suffered the setback in BA’s opener with no strikeouts and three walks. Olivia Lofton (1K, 1BB) also pitched in relief.

Anna Smith recorded the only hit for the Lady Cougars at the plate with a single.

Copiah 9, BA 3

Alex Rae Smith (0K, 4BB) and Olivia Lofton (0K, 1BB) took turns for BA in pitching against Copiah Academy.

Anna Grace Covington and Alex Rae Smith were the top hitter for the Lady Cougars with a single apiece.

BA 4, Jackson Prep 2 

Lofton pitched the victory for BA with one strikeout and four walks. Alex Rae Smith (1K, 0BB) collects the save.

Olivia Thornton sparked the Lady Cougars’ offense with a home run and a single. Alex Rae Smith contributed two singles. Hitting safely were Anna Smith, Kaitlyn Jordan, Olivia Lofton and Anna Grace Covington.

In junior varsity action,  BA captured a split decision in tournament action. The Lady Cougars lost to Central Private 10-6, but crushed the ASC Lady Rebels 13-1.

In the lost to Central Private, Covington suffered the setback for BA with two strikeouts and seven walks. Abeni Fuller (1K, 2BB) started for the Lady Cougars.

Cameron Watson paced BA’s offense with a double. Covington hit a single.

In the win over ASC, Madi Smith tossed for the Lady Cougars with three strikeouts and three walks.

Fullers powered the Lady Cougars at the plate with a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Olivia Lewis, Madi Smith, Cameron Watson, Makayla Martin, Elizabeth Case and Covington.
