Several local schools will be on the road this Friday, but three teams will remain at home with high hopes of attracting more local football fans for Week Three of Friday Night Lights.

Brookhaven Academy entertains district rival, Prentiss Christian; West Lincoln hosts Cedar Ridge of Arkansas; and Lawrence County welcomes Crystal Springs to Monticello.

On the road, the Brookhaven Panthers invade Pricedale to take on the North Pike Jaguars. Bogue Chitto visits Natchez to battle the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave. Loyd Star travels to Springfield, Louisiana, Puckett entertains Enterprise, West Lauderdale welcomes Wesson and McComb hosts Franklin County.

In other games of local interest, Hazlehurst hosts their first home game this season against South Delta. Copiah Academy visits Hillcrest Christian and Parklane Academy invades Silliman Institute in Clinton, Louisiana.

All games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

In last week’s predictions, I started my prognostications on our local teams and finished 4-3. Not bad for my first time predicting the winners. Congratulations go to Bogue Chitto, West Lincoln, Wesson and Franklin County for winning their first game of the season.

Here are more details for this week.

Brookhaven (2-0),  coached by Tommy Clopton, enjoyed their second straight home win last Friday after defeating the Lawrence County Cougars 33-12 on King Field.

This week, the Panthers begin a month-long road tour as they make a trip to Pricedale Friday to take on the North Pike Jaguars at the North Pike Middle School.

The Jaguars (1-1), coached by Chris Smith, suffered their first loss of the season last Friday night, falling to Franklin County 28-20.

BHS’ top performer last week on offense was Tre McDaniel, rushing for 181 yards on 15 carries and scoring four touchdowns. Ken Boyd had rushed 109 yards on 11 carries.

Defensively, Darius O’Quinn and Leo Lewis led the Panthers with nine tackles each. O’Quinn also had a fumble recovery.

Last year: Brookhaven surpassed North Pike 19-13.

My pick for this year: The Panthers will maintain their undefeated record with a 24-17 win over the Jaguars.

Bogue Chitto (1-1),  coached by Gareth Sartin, is extremely excited after capturing their first win of the season. The Bobcats battled back in the second half to beat Enterprise 46-40 last Thursday night.

This week, the Bobcats will start their march in Region 4-1A as they visit Natchez to take on the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave at D’Evereaux Stadium.

The Green Wave (2-0), coached by Ron Rushing, is No. 1 in the latest Class 1A Prep Poll after crushing the Madison-St. Joe Bruins 34-7 last Friday.

BC’s top offensive performer last week was: Freshmen quarterback Tucker Lambert, who completed 33 of 40 passes for 346 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for 108 yards on 18 carries and scoring five touchdowns on the ground.

Defensively, Will Fauver, Devin McEwen and Kobe Roberts powered the Bobcats with 12 tackles apiece.

Last year: BC knocked off Cathedral 51-48 in a offensive shootout.

My pick for this year: Cathedral’s high-octane offense will cause BC problems as the Green Wave prevails 42-14.

Loyd Star (1-1),  coached by first year coach Adam Cook, suffered a disappointing setback last Friday, falling to the Prentiss Bulldogs 42-14 at A.E. Gray Field.

This week, the Hornets are on the road again as they travel to Springfield, Louisiana to battle the Springfield Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs, under the direction of coach Ryan Serpas, are excited to host Loyd Star in their season opener.

Loyd Star’s top offensive performer last week was Parker Flowers with 114 yards passing on five-of-10 attempts.

Defensively, Peyton Flowers had another dominating performance for the Hornets with 28 tackles and a blocked punt. Brett Calcote also had a big game with 14 stops while running back a kickoff return 75 yards for a touchdown.

Last year: The Bulldogs visited Lincoln County and hammered Loyd Star 64-14.

My pick for this year: Springfield will open its 2014 season with a 35-21 victory over the Hornets.

West Lincoln (1-1),  coached by Willie Brumfield, captured the Bears’ first victory of the season with a 15-3 win over the Sacred Heart Crusaders.

This week, the Bears will enjoy their third straight week at home as they prepare to welcome the Arkansas-based Cedar Ridge Timberwolves to Perry Miller Field for the first time.

The Timberwolves, coached by Danny Brustrom, will have to endure a very long (approximate 6 hour+) bus trip to officially kick off their football season.

West Lincoln’s top offensive performer from last week was senior quarterback Ty Forman with 121 yards rushing on 10 carries. Jade Use also contributed to the ground attack with 22 rushes for 102 yards.

Defensively, Lofton Sills paced the Bears with 13 tackles including nine solo.

My prediction for this year: The Timberwolves will experience some great southern hospitality at Flea Hop University. West Lincoln wins 24-14.

Brookhaven Academy (0-2), under the direction of first-year coach Blake Purvis, is still searching for the Cougars’ first win of the season after falling to Parklane Academy 34-6 last week in McComb.

This week, the Cougars will begin their run through District 5-AA as they host their division rival, the Prentiss Christian Saints.

The Saints (2-1), coached by Randy Holloway, lost to Hillcrest Christian 29-16 last Friday.

BA’s top offensive performers last week was Connor Dorman with 11 carries for 32 yards and caught three passes for 45 yards.

Defensively, Garrett Pace and Trent Nettles paced the Cougars with seven tackles apiece.

Last year: BA dominated the Saints 28-6.

My prediction for this year: The Cougars will claim their first win of the season with a 35-14 victory over Prentiss Christian.

Enterprise (0-2),  coached by Brook Burns, is riding a 31-game losing streak after suffering a heartbreaking 46-40 defeat to their Lincoln County rivals, the Bogue Chitto Bobcats, last Thursday at Troy Smith Field.

This week, the Jackets are searching for an well-deserved victory come Friday night as they prepare to travel to Puckett to battle the Puckett Wolves.

The Wolves (2-1), coached by Jaris Patrick, were skinned by the Pelahatchie Chiefs 40-20 last week.

Enterprise’s top offensive performers last week were Zach Hodges with three of six passing for 97 yards. Chance Lacking powered the Jacket ground attack with six rushes for 91 yards. Jeffrey Daniels led all Jacket receivers with three catches for 129 yards.

Defensively, Austin Coleman and Wesley Blazier paced the Jackets with 10 tackles apiece.

Last year: Puckett blanked Enterprise 46-0.

My prediction for this year: The Wolves will beat the Jackets 42-6.

Franklin County (1-1),  coached by first-year coach Anthony Hart, claimed the Bulldogs’ first win of the year in Meadville, knocking off the North Pike Jaguars 28-20 last Friday.

This week, the Bulldogs prepare to travel east on Highway 98 to McComb to take on the Tigers.

The Tigers (2-0), coached by Malcolm Jones, are currently undefeated this season after beating Forest Hill 33-27 last week.

FC’s top offensive player last week was DeMartre Collins, who accounted for 121 yards passing and rushed for 124 yards on 19 carries.

Defensively, senior defensive back Michael White intercepted a pass.

Last year: Franklin County nipped McComb 33-28.

My prediction for this year: The Tigers will prevail over the Bulldogs 28-21.

Lawrence County (1-1),  under the direction of first-year head coach Jaymie Palmer, suffered a tough 33-12 loss last week to Brookhaven.

This week, the Cougars will be looking to climb back into the win column as they welcome the Crystal Springs Tigers to Monticello.

The Tigers (0-2), coached by Stephen Rice, lost last week to Florence 34-27.

Lawrence County’s top offensive performance last week was Quarterback Charl’Tez Nunnery with 10 rushes for 55 yards, while completing seven-of-19 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Brandon Armstrong, Gaylon Pittman, Rykendrick Harness recovered a fumble each for the LCHS.

Last year: The Cougars roared pass Crystal Springs 35-21.

My pick for this year: The Cougars will out claw the Tigers 48-21.

Wesson (1-1),  coached by Ronald Greer, are thrilled to have their first win of the season in the bag after clipping the Sumrall Bobcats 27-26 last week at Stone Stadium.

This week, the Cobras will have a tough challenge on their hands as they visit the West Lauderdale Knights.

The Knights (1-1), coached by Stan McCain, suffered a bad taste in the mouth last week falling 13-12 to their rivals, the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans.

Wesson’s top offensive performer was Michael Hauer with nine carries for 56 yards.

Defensively, DeMarcus Smith was the top tackler for Wesson with nine tackles and two sacks.

Last year: The Knights slayed the Cobras 27-0.

My prediction for this year: West Lauderdale will defeat Wesson 35-21.
