Mrs. Jones, 81, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson. She was born on Nov. 20, 1932, in Brookhaven to Eudell Allen Mathis and Prentiss Lamar Mathis.

She grew up in Brookhaven and graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1950. She graduated from Mississippi University for Women in 1954.

She worked at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. for a short period after college. She then returned to Mississippi to marry her high school sweetheart Ben Jones on March 20, 1955, in Brookhaven.
