School board OKs various routine items of business

The Brookhaven School District board meeting met to approve several 16th Section matters Tuesday night.
The board approved conducting a seismic survey to be conducted on 16th Section land.
They also accepted bids from Barretto Forestry, Pleasant Hill Forestry and Aerial Forestry Services. Barretto Forestry will plant trees on 147 acres at a cost of $98.15 per acres. Pleasant Hill Forestry will apply liquid herbicide on 82 acres of pine at a cost of $112 and 10 acres of hardwood at $88. Aerial Forestry Services will apply aerial liquid herbicide on 75 acres at a cost of $64.12 per acre.
The board also approved the consent agenda, which included the following:
• Fees and/or fundraisers for the Brookhaven High School choir, cross country, tennis, Hardwood Club, Brookhaven Elementary School, baseball, band, and Lipsey School.
• Lipsey selling annuals
• Forming a new Ping Pong Club at BHS
• A donation from Softball Booster Club in the amount of $1,663.70 for a speaker system
• Student transfers and re-admissions
• Mississippi School Counseling Curriculum Framework
• A special education preschool project application.
• Out-of-state travel to Chicago for the BHS band to perform in April 2015.
• A sole-source purchase from Scholastic Education for math/reading programs in the amount of $7,313.
