Parklane blanks Brookhaven Academy

MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Lady Cougars suffered their first loss of the season Monday night after suffering a 9-0 loss to the Parklane Lady Pioneers in MAIS softball action.
“Parklane has a very good ball club, and they are well coached,” said BA first-year coach Becky Flowers. “Overall, I was very pleased with my girls efforts. We came out and competed. This was a tough loss for us, but we will bounce back.”
The Lady Cougars (1-1) will be in action today as they travel to Franklinton, Louisiana, to battle the Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers. Junior varsity action starts at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7:15 p.m.

The Lady Pioneers of McComb (3-0) relied on their tough defense to quickly set the tone of the contest early. On offense, Parklane managed to help out by getting their bats going early to claim a 2-0 lead in the first inning of action.
The Lady Pioneers continued to increase their lead in the bottom of the third inning by pushing across two more run to secure a 4-0 lead.
Parklane would add five more runs between the fourth and fifth innings to secure a 9-0 lead and held off Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars late rally to capture the victory.
Mikaela Smith was the winning pitcher for Parklane Academy with six strikeouts and no walks. Mary Mclean Lindsey (1K, 1BB) also saw some action on the mound in relief.
Alex Rae Smith absorbed the setback for the Lady Cougars with one strikeout, no walks and one hit batter.
Anna K. Smith, Anna Grace Covington and Alex Rae Smith were the top hitters at the plate for BA with a single each.
Taylor Murray powered the Lady Pioneers with three singles. Destiny Brown continued to fuel the flames with a triple and a single. Carrington Jefcoat and Kymberli McDowell contributed a pair of singles each. Mabry Glass had a double. Hitting safely were Morgan Webb, Mikaela Smith, Lana Moak and Chandler Sassone.
In junior varsity action, the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars defeated the Parklane Lady Pioneers 7-2.
Anna Grace Covington pitched the victory for the Lady Cougars with four strikeouts and three walks. Madi Smith (1K, 1BB) also saw some action on the mound for BA.
Covington was the offensive leader at the plate for the Lady Cougar with two singles. Sadie Corban and Madi Smith hit safely.
