Lincoln AL defeats Pine Hill; clinches final spot in state tourney

The Lincoln County Americans are happy after clinching Third Place in the Dixie Youth 12-year-old District Six Tournament at Keystone Park.
The Americans managed to knock off the Pine Hill All-Stars 7-4 in Wednesday night consolation action to secure a spot in the Dixie Youth State Tournament next week in Columbia.
The District Six Tournament will conclude today as the Franklin County All-Stars battle the McComb All-Stars for the championship. Game time is schedule for a 6 p.m. start. If a second and decisive game is needed it will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Lincoln AL 7, Pine Hill 4
The Lincoln Americans and the Pine Hill All-Stars baseball fans gathered to show their support and cheer their baseball players on in a crucial and decisive final game to clinch third place.
The Americans responded and quickly set the tone of the contest as they a claimed a early 3-0 lead after one inning of action.
Both teams provided an exciting defensive battle in the second and third innings as either team could get their offense going.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Pine Hill All-Star managed to break up Lincoln County’s bid for a shut out and charge back into the contest scoring two runs to trimmed down Lincoln County’s lead to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Americans answered Pine Hill’s challenge with a two-run home run blast from Travis Hall to increase their lead to 5-2. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lincoln County would add two more runs to secure a 7-2 advantage.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Pine Hill All-Stars put together a late rally with high hopes of stealing away the win. The All-Stars of Pine Hill put together a string of hits to push in two runs across the plate and threatened to produce more but the Americans defense rose to the challenge and secure the final two out to clinch the victory.
Trey Fortenberry was the winning pitcher for the Americans with seven strikeouts and two walks. Harrison Brownlee (2K, 2BB) secured the save in relief.
Cody Boeta suffered the loss on the mound for the Pine Hill All-Stars with one strikeout and one walk.
Hall was the offensive leader at the plate for the Americans with the two-run home run. Cade Brown contributed a double and a single. Hitting safely were Barrion Robinson, Tyler Allen and Taylor Allen.
Patrick Day was the top hitter for Pine Hill with a double and a single. Slade Toler and Colby Welch provided a double each. Brady Smith hit a single.
