Severe thunderstorm warning issued

BROOKHAVEN — National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lincoln County until 3:30 p.m. According to NWS Jackson, a severe thunderstorm was located by radar near Garden City traveling east at 4o mph and should reach Brookhaven around 2:55.

According to NWS Jackson, the severe thunderstorm could produce wind gusts reaching 60 mph with expected damage to roofs, siding and trees. Volunteer firefighters already responded to a grass fire sparked by a downed powerline this afternoon.

“For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building,” NWS Jackson advises.

Lincoln County is also under a tornado watch until 7 p.m.

As of 12:20 p.m., Entergy reports 11,949 customers are without power across the state with 147 of those customers in Lincoln County, 109 customers in Franklin County and 359 customers in Copiah County.

Magnolia Electric reports 1,649 customers are without power in southwest Mississippi. Of the 1,649 customers without power, 759 of them are in Franklin County and 668 in Amite County. 46 customers in Lincoln County are without power.

Southwest Electric reports 1,079 customers without power in southwest Mississippi. Of the 1,079 customers, 177 customers are without power in Lincoln County, 25 customers are without power in Jefferson County, 216 customers without power in Franklin County and 59 customers in Copiah County are without power.
