Visiting Itawamba Community College took both games on Monday against Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.

In the opening women’s game, ICC jumped out to a 20-8 lead in a game that they led throughout for a 66-51 victory.

The win moves Itawamba to 20-5 on the season and 10-2 in MACCC play. Co-Lin (14-13, 4-8) and coach Britta Stephens got 20 points from sophomore guard Angel “Cookie” Wilkinson. The only other Wolf in double digits was 5-foot-3 point guard Maddison Mitchell (Plaquemine, La.) with 11 points.

The Wolves were without freshman point guard Kylinn Bell and freshman wing Kaylee Johnson in the loss.

Co-Lin alum Jamilah Sanders, a state champion in Wesson during her playing career, is an assistant coach for an ICC squad that currently sits tied for second in the MACCC standings.

The Itawamba men’s team is led by a CLCC alum in first year head coach Darrian Wilson. The Indians took the men’s contest 91-83.

Itawamba (23-4, 10-2 MACCC) had five players score in double figures, led by Dayveun Anderson with 20 points. The Indians finished 11-of-24 from the 3-point line.

The visitors also went 26-of-38 from the free throw line while Co-Lin (10-14, 2-10) went 5-of-18 from deep and 14-of-21 from the charity stripe.

The MACCC portion of the schedule started off with an 89-87 overtime loss at Northwest for the Wolves as head coach David Sanders and his team have continued to see some close contests end with CLCC on the wrong side of the score.

Co-Lin has also lost in overtime against Southwest, in overtime against Holmes, by four points at MACCC leading Jones College and in overtime at Hinds last week.

Freshman guard Deven Bates, who’s averaging 23.5 points per game, led the way for CLCC with 23 points in the loss. Sophomore Dakotah Hillard (Hazlehurst High) came off the bench to score 21 for the Wolves.

Co-Lin has two more games remaining this season, with a trip to face Meridian CC on Thursday and a regular season finale in Mullen Gymnasium on March 3 against Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.
