Softball roundup: Enterprise has 2-0 week on diamond

Here’s a look at who’s won and who’s lost this week in area high school softball action.

 

Enterprise 15, W Lincoln 8

Enterprise 10, Salem 0

The MHSAA 1A Enterprise Yellow Jackets and coach Alicia Smith are off to a 3-1 start after picking up a pair of wins this week over West Lincoln and Enterprise.

West Lincoln went up 2-0 after the first inning at home on Monday, but Smith and her team roared back to score one in the second, five in the third, two in the fifth, four in the sixth, and three in the seventh.

EAC piled up 13 hits and saw West Lincoln commit 10 errors in the game.

Piper Martin and Zoey Dean had three hits each for Enterprise. Both Martin and Dean hit a triple and had one RBI apiece. Miranda Anderson led the way with four RBIs. Rayne Falvey and Caitlin Case drove in one run each.

Case, Martin, Dean, and Natalie Williams each hit a double for the Jackets.

Anderson pitched the win in the circle by giving up four earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking five, finishing with 112 pitches thrown.

West Lincoln pitcher Caroline Hedgepath threw 152 pitches and struck out nine while walking two.

At the plate Hedgepath slapped a pair of doubles while Kolbi Thornton also doubled for the Bears.

West Lincoln head coach Anita Thornton also saw Riley Martin get two hits. Hedgepath drove in two runs while Ryleigh Purdy had one RBI and Thronton had an RBI as well.

Enterprise got 10 hits to score 10 runs on Tuesday in a win over fellow 1A program Salem.

Falvey, a seventh grader, pitched the win by striking out six, walking two, and giving up three hits.

Dean doubled twice and drove in three runs. Falvey also doubled and had one RBI. Leadoff batter, junior Terra Vining, had two hits and an RBI for the Jackets while Martin, Case, Anderson and Laney Moree also hit safely.

The Yellow Jackets started the season out with a 5-4 loss to Lawrence County but then bounced back to beat Bogue Chitto 21-2 last week to get their first win.

Enterprise is scheduled to host its annual tournament on Saturday. The lineup of games for the day includes Enterprise and West Lincoln playing at 10 a.m., Bogue Chitto and Mendenhall taking each other on at 11:20 a.m., West Lincoln and Natchez facing off at 12:40 p.m., Mendenhall and Natchez squaring up at 2 p.m. and Enterprise closing things out with a game against Bogue Chitto at 3:20 p.m.

 

Bogue Chitto 14, Tylertown 1

First-year Bogue Chitto softball coach Austin Hood and his Bobcats moved to 3-2 on the season with a blowout, four-inning win over Tylertown at home on Tuesday.

Eighth-grade pitcher Jonna Claire Roberts struck out 11, walked three, and gave up one hit and one unearned run in four innings of work for Bogue Chitto.

At the plate, Roberts finished with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore catcher Joy Leggett smashed a double and also drove in a pair of runs. Seventh grader Harper Kyzar, junior Kylee Reynolds, and sophomore Madelyn DeJesus all had one RBI apiece as well.

Junior Abigail Holder, eighth grader Raylee Chisolm and Reynolds all safely singled for the Bobcats.

Bogue Chitto is scheduled to host 4A Sumrall on Monday after playing at the Enterprise tournament over the weekend.

 

Brookhaven High 22, Franklin County 5

Brookhaven High 11, Terry High 6

Brookhaven High School piled up the runs on Monday and Tuesday in getting a pair of wins over Franklin County on the road and at home against Terry High.

Longtime BHS head coach Mandy Vinson saw her team use 12 hits to score 22 runs on Monday in Meadville. The Panthers had an 11-run fourth inning that put an early, run-rule finish on things.

Junior catcher Jayonna Pendleton drove in four runs from her leadoff spot as did junior shortstop Journi Hunt.

Sophomore Caitlyn Cameron hit a double as did sophomore Mia Lee. Pendelton hit a home run and freshman Zaylee Reed hit a triple.

Lee drove in three runs on three hits. Cameron had two RBIs, as did Reed. Sophomore Addisyn Tucker and junior Kennedi Dickey each had an RBI in the win as well.

Hunt slugged a triple and a double in the win over Terry. Lee doubled twice in that one while Reed, Dickey, and Anna Dooley each hit a double.

Hunt drove in three runs against Terry while Lee and Cameron had two RBIs each.

Tucker pitched the win over Terry, striking out nine and giving up nine hits and four earned runs. Dooley got the win in the circle over Franklin County by striking out five and giving up two earned runs on four hits.

Vinson and her squad will play at a tournament put on by Columbia High this weekend. The Panthers will face Hattiesburg High on Saturday at 5 p.m. and then face Forrest County AHS at 7 p.m. BHS is back at home hosting Pearl on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

 

Wesson 11, West Lincoln 5

Wesson and coach Michelle Nunnery are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Warren Central and West Lincoln.

On Tuesday at West Lincoln, the Cobras got a three RBI night from senior infielder Mary Gwyn Hynum. Sophomore outfielder Jaide Shoop had a two RBI effort as well while freshman Kenslie Carter and senior Liilly Channell had one RBI each.

Hynum had the only extra base hit for Wesson via a double. Macy Loy, Emileigh Woodson, and Madelynn Brooks all also hit safely for the Cobras in the win.

Freshman pitcher Madelyn Sanders picked up the win. Sanders struck out 11, walked none, scattered four hits and gave up one earned run in seven innings, only needing 99 pitches to get it done.

Eighth grader Haleigh Wallace and junior Baleigh Griffith each had two hits for the West Lincoln offense. Wallace drove in two runs while sophomore Riley Martin also had a pair of runs driven in for the Bears.
