Bogue Chitto’s Thompson named ‘Mr. Basketball’

Bogue Chitto senior point guard Devonta “Bam” Thompson was named the MHSAA 2A Mr. Basketball this week in conjunction with the Mississippi Association of Coaches (MAC) and presenting sponsor of the award, C Spire.

All winners will be recognized during the upcoming basketball state championships in Jackson. They’ll also be honored on March 4 at a special awards luncheon hosted by the MHSAA.

Other winners announced for Mr. Basketball were Braylon Barnes of Brandon High (7A), Phil Nelson of Ridgeland High (6A), Jamarion Fleming of Canton High (5A), Tim Holliday of Itawamba AHS (4A), Kedrick Simmons of Booneville High (3A), and Stanford Spearman Jr. of Coffeeville High (1A).

Miss Basketball winners were Fran Kelly of Hernando High (7A), Jakera Ducksworth of West Jones (6A), Shamira Morton of Canton High (5A), Meg Moore of Tishomingo County (4A), Caitlin Hall of Coahoma County (3A), Macie Phifer of Ingomar High (2A), and Akiah Prince of Simmons High (1A).

Thompson and Bogue Chitto have reached the 2A quarterfinals this season, a third-straight appearance for the Bobcats.
