Lincoln County under tornado watch

BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service in Jackson issued a tornado watch for Lincoln County Wednesday afternoon. The watch will expire at 10 p.m. Wednesday night.
Lincoln County is forecast to have an enhanced risk of severe weather Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service in Jackson warned severe thunderstorms could move through the area between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, there could be damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, hail up to a quarter in size, tornadoes are likely and strong tornadoes can not be ruled out for Lincoln, Pike and Lawrence Counties.
Franklin County is currently under a tornado watch issued by the National Weather Service. The watch was issued at 12:05 p.m. and is set to expire at 8 p.m. To the north, Copiah County is under a flood watch as is our western neighbor Jefferson County until 6 p.m.
More rain is coming for Lincoln County according to the National Weather Service. Another 0.38 inches of rain is forecast to fall according to the NWS Jackson hourly forecast.
NWS Jackson reports in the past 24 hours, portions of Lincoln County have received anywhere from 0.25 inches of rain to two inches of rain.
