BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County Board of Supervisors received an update on potential disaster relief for the county after four tornadoes tore through Lincoln County on December 28, 2024. The update came in a regularly scheduled docket meeting.
According to Mississippi Emergency Management Agency preliminary reports, 25 homes and three farms suffered damage. Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid told the board they would not receive anything from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
“We didn’t get approved. We did everything we were supposed to but didn’t meet the threshold,” Reid said. “Two of the homes were being built and didn’t count.”
The news comes before another round of severe weather is forecast for Lincoln County. Although the severe weather threat is much lower than the December tornado outbreak.
The National Weather Service in Jackson warns there is a marginal risk of severe storms for Lincoln County Thursday evening into Friday morning. Isolated severe storms, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes can not be ruled out. The timing of the forecasted weather is between 8 p.m. Thursday and 1 a.m. Friday.
