BROOKHAVEN — The latest map from the United States Drought Monitor contained great news for Lincoln County residents. Drought conditions, which started in July, have come to an end in Lincoln County this week.
According to historical data, Lincoln County endured abnormally dry conditions starting in July 2024 until Dec. 10, 2024. In August, conditions had improved to almost the entire county being out of abnormally dry conditions but a dry September and October led to moderate drought conditions developing. Still, the drought conditions were much better than the conditions in 2023.
Lincoln County currently has normal soil moisture levels thanks to much needed rainfall. NWS Jackson forecasts a slight chance of rain this weekend with a 30 percent chance of rain Saturday and Sunday. Monday is forecast to have a 40 percent chance in the afternoon followed by a 70 percent chance of rain Monday night.
Drought conditions are not expected to return this winter.
