Supervisors working together

ENTERPRISE — Lincoln County Supervisors continue to work together to tackle projects across the county. Most recently, supervisors from District 2, 3 and 4 worked on a new school pickup line at Enterprise Attendance Center.
District 4 Supervisor Eli Ferguson said the pickup line comes off of MS-583 and snakes between the Enterprise Drive-In and the school, behind the school and past the softball fields. It will hopefully prevent parents from parking in the public roadway and reduce the risk of accidents around the intersections of Enterprise Drive, Topisaw Drive and MS-583.
Ferguson said by working together it saved the county a lot of time and money. District 2 Supervisor Keith Lewis has a county owned gravel pit where the material for the new pickup line came from.
“We put our resources together and hauled a bunch of loads to Enterprise,” Ferguson said.
He explained West Lincoln’s parent pickup line is already off of the public roadway although he does plan to put speed bumps around the school. They will continue to make other improvements to the nearby roads this coming spring.
District 3 Supervisor John David Hart has two high schools in his district, Enterprise and Bogue Chitto. A project to build a new parent pickup line at Bogue Chitto will begin once the right of ways and easements are worked out.
“It has all been a long time in the making but the graveling work at Enterprise took two days,” Hart said. “It was a lot of work. We couldn’t have done it ourselves.”
The project to build these new parent pickup lines is a joint effort with the Lincoln County School District. Hart said the school district cleared the land by Enterprise.
“Our next step is to figure out if we want to put out gray rock or pave it,” Hart said. “If they (Lincoln County Schools) pay for material we will provide labor and equipment. We plan to keep working together.”
Hart said they have worked together on chip and seal projects already. He added Lewis has an idea for a project next spring and by working together they could get a lot of work done in a shorter time frame.
District 1 Supervisor Jerry Wilson pointed out there was a difference in the current board last week during a supervisors meeting.
“Since you have all been on the board we all work together,” Wilson said.
His comments came as the board discussed how they wanted to handle funding for state aid roads.
