The MHSAA has officially announced its new round of region reclassifications and with it comes some big changes for area schools for the 2025-2027 school years.
Brookhaven High (5A), Lawrence County (4A), and Loyd Star (2A) are three schools that will have no changes to their class but will see some new teams coming and going in their respective regions.
One team that will join Region 7-2A with Loyd Star is Wesson, as the Cobras are moving back down to the 2A ranks after spending the last four years as a 3A program.
Wesson last dipped down to the 2A class from 2019-2020, a period where they went a perfect 10-0 against their Region 7-2A competition in football.
Wesson will be the second largest 2A school in the MHSAA, behind Amite County and just ahead of Charleston High.
Enterprise will be joining Region 7-2A along with Loyd Star, Wesson, Amite County, and Wilkinson County.
The Yellow Jackets had been playing at the 1A level for the last four years, but will return to 2A, which is the class they played at from 2007-2020.
Notice two teams not listed on the aforementioned group for Region 7-2A?
That would be Lincoln County schools Bogue Chitto and West Lincoln, who are both moving down to the world of 1A athletics.
Bogue Chitto only made the move up to 2A beginning in 2017, as the Bobcats were a 1A school since the inception of this style of classifications that began in the mid-1980s.
West Lincoln has not been a 1A school in over a decade.
For football, the BC Bobcats and WL Bears will play in Region 7-1A with Mount Olive and Salem, which means all four schools will all qualify for the playoffs, regardless of their record.
Piney Woods will join Region 7-1A for basketball, making it a five-team region for hoops.
Brookhaven High remains in Region 3-5A, but there is some shuffling with the Panthers remaining in the region with Natchez High, North Pike, and South Jones. Newcomers to Region 3 are Laurel High and Sumrall High, which is moving up from the 4A ranks.
Lawrence County is remaining in Region 7-4A with Columbia High, but the rest of the region will be new as those two schools will be joined by McComb High, South Pike, and Poplarville.
