Area veterans have local advocate

As Veterans Day approaches, the Lincoln County Veteran Service Officer wants area veterans to know her office is open to help meet their needs.

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Kimberly Hall-Bright was appointed as the county’s service officer in July 2022. The Magnolia native accepted the challenge of assisting veterans and their families with benefits, ahead of the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022. The PACT Act expands Veterans Affairs health care and benefits for those exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances.

Hall-Bright said she is determined to provide these resources to the veterans of Lincoln County, and ensure that they are properly informed and served. She also works with local agencies to enhance veterans’ experiences, as well as collaboration with Mississippi VA.

“I would have never dreamed that I would have the opportunity to assist World War II and Vietnam War veterans in a way such as this,” Hall-Bright said. “It has truly been an honor to serve these vets and their families. Most folks of the new generation are not aware that our World War II and Vietnam War veterans were not received well when they came home, so the least I can do is aid in making ‘home’ a little more comfortable for them.”

The daughter of the late Elder James E. Hall and Mrs. Gloria Hall, the officer said her parents taught her the truth of John 15:13 — “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

“What better way to serve? This position has truly humbled me, and I pray that God continues to give me the direction, wisdom and knowledge to enhance the lives of our heroes.”

While an active-duty Marine, Hall-Bright served honorably in tours foreign and domestic, and earned multiple awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal for her contribution to service during the Gulf War.

Veterans who need help with medical care, survivors’ benefits, or compensation/pension claims can contact the Lincoln County office at 601-835-3470.
