West Lincoln finishes fourth overall at MHSAA 2A girl’s cross-country championship

The West Lincoln Bears finished fourth out of 11 MHSAA 2A teams on Thursday at the annual girls’ cross-country state championship meet on Choctaw Trails in south Jackson.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal won the team competition, followed by East Union and Eupora High. Eupora just edged out the Bears and coach Jay Case by three points.
West Lincoln eighth grader Rainee Martin set a new school record by finishing the 5K course in 23 minutes and four seconds, which put her in 10th place in a field of 77 runners.
WL senior Kyle Suchy finished 18th in 25:11 and junior Ryleigh Purdy came in at 26:02, which was good enough for 21st place. Right on her heels was her teammate, junior Chloe Sterling with a 22nd place finish in 26:04
Other runners for the Bears in the event were sophomore Jesse Acy (27:07), senior Yedith Uribe (29:06), and sophomore Ava Leake (30:33).
