Thousands remain without power across Mississippi

Residents in 24 Mississippi counties remain with power as crews work to reconnect service after Hurricane Francine moved northeast through the state late Wednesday and early Thursday.

Most of the counties affected are in the central-to-north eastern side of the state.

One southeastern county, Pearl River, had 4,167 of 31,283 customers out of power as of 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The customers are served by three power companies.

In Southwest Mississippi, Copiah, Jefferson Davis, Claiborne, Simpson and Covington counties remained affected.

In Copiah County, 2,586 of 15,003 customers remained without power just before noon Thursday. These meters are served by Entergy Mississippi, Southern Pine Electric, and Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association.

In Jefferson Davis County, 908 of 11,250 customers remained without power. These are served by Entergy, Mississippi Power, Pearl River Valley EPA, and Southern Pine.

The majority of continued outages are in rural areas.
