Wet night of football, weekend in forecast

BROOKHAVEN — Forecasts show the threat of rain will continue the rest of today and on into the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s chance of rain is around 70 percent.
The chance of rain tonight is 60 percent as public high schools across Mississippi open their 2024 football season. Rain threats will not subside anytime this weekend going into next week.
Forecasts show an 80 percent chance of rain Saturday, 50 percent chance of showers Sunday, 40 percent chance of rain Monday, 60 percent chance of rain Tuesday and 70 percent chance of rain Wednesday.
At the same time, tropical conditions in the Atlantic Ocean are looking ripe for developing storms. National Hurricane Center in Miami states there is a 40 percent chance of a tropical cyclone formation in the next 7 days as a disturbance moves across the Caribbean. Right now the system is just a bunch of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Another disturbance in the tropics off of the coast of west Africa has a 20 percent chance of tropical cyclone formation in the next seven days. It will move slowly across the Atlantic.
