Drought, heat, tropics lead weather forecast

BROOKHAVEN — Drought conditions have intensified in parts of Lincoln County according to a new report from Drought.Gov. Heat stress conditions linger and tropical storm action is picking up in the gulf.
According to Drought.Gov, 27 percent of Lincoln County is classified under a moderate drought right now. The region of Lincoln County in moderate drought is the northwestern panhandle. The other 73 percent is classified as abnormally dry.
Thursday’s weather conditions are not really conducive to wildfire risk. Relative humidity reached a low of 68 percent at 2 p.m and is forecast to increase as rain chances improve. Wind speeds are forecast to reach 6 mph max.
Dangerous heat stress conditions are forecast to continue. NWS Jackson warns there is an elevated risk of heat stress Thursday afternoon. Heat exhaustion is likely with prolonged activity until 6 p.m.
Thursday’s afternoon’s chance of precipitation is 70 percent. The rain chances Friday is as high as 90 percent with rainfall predicted to be a tenth to a quarter of an inch.
Saturday’s rain forecast is 70 percent. Opening day of dove, and early Canada Goose season has a 60 percent chance of rain Sunday. Labor Day has a 40 percent chance of rain.
Tuesday and Wednesday of next week are forecast to have 60 percent to 70 percent chances of rain. It is possible tropical activity in the Atlantic is pushing some much needed rainfall to Mississippi.
Speaking of the Atlantic, National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida forecasts a 40 percent chance of tropical cyclone development in the next 7 days.
