Gallery: Local schools run in Cross Country meet

Brookhaven High sophomore Isabella Iles was the top local finisher Thursday in the varsity girls’ race at the annual Ole Brook Invitational cross-country meet. Iles helped the BHS team, coached by Shannon Knott, win their competition with her second place finish.

Sophomore Ian Iles was the top local finisher in the boys’ competition on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational held at the Hansel King Sports Complex. Iles finished fifth overall in a field with over 90 runners. St. Andrew's took first place in the boys' team competition.
Junior Caitlin Penton of St. Andrew’s Episcopal was the first placed finisher in the girls’ race on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. Penton and the Saints are the defending MHSAA 2A state champions.
West Lincoln freshman Jacob Jones sprints towards the finish on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational cross country meet. Jones and the Bears are next scheduled to run on Aug. 29 at Madison Central.
West Lincoln senior Hayden Skates runs to the finish line on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. Skates finished in the top 10 for the Bears at the annual meet held at the Hansel King Sports Complex. Skates finished 13th overall last year at the MHSAA 2A state competition.
BHS freshman Jeremiah Henning had a top 10 finish for the Panthers on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. Henning and the Panthers are next scheduled to run on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Northwest Rankin High School.
Senior Ariyana Graham approaches the finish on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. Graham was one of four seniors for Brookhaven High to finish in the top 10 of the girls’ race. Joining Graham (8th) in that group were Natalie McKinney (3rd), Annabelle Summers (5th) and Ella Thompson (9th).
West Lincoln eighth grader Rainee Martin finished first overall in the 2-mile junior high girls’ race on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. Martin finished second last year at the event held annually at the Hansel King Sports Complex.
West Lincoln eighth grader Fisher Holcomb was the top local finisher, coming in second, in the 2-mile junior high boys’ race on Thursday at the Ole Brook Invitational. The West Lincoln cross-country teams are coached by Jay Case.
BROOKHAVEN — Local schools competed in a cross country meet held by Brookhaven High School Thursday afternoon. It sure was hot yesterday at race time.
