Flags flew at half mast Friday morning in front of the Lincoln County Courthouse.  At 103 West Chickasaw Street, Bertha’s Flower Shop employees were busy making thin blue line ribbons. Owner Myrtle Cartwright said they were donating small ribbons for police officers, firefighters, ambulance workers, nurses and military servicemen.

Black and blue ribbons were affixed to the Ameriprise Financial office door on 1st Street. All tributes to Lincoln County resident and Summit police officer Troy Floyd who was killed in the line of duty Thursday.

“We are just doing it for Floyd. We knew him basically as a family friend,” Cartwright said. “We felt like supporting our community and this was the least we could do.”

The small ribbons can be affixed to radio antennas, car antennas and license plates.

Her granddaughter Kayla Carter worked to make bigger ribbons.

“He was in here all the time and would stop by to check on us,” Carter said.
