Brookhaven Academy softball moves to 5-0 with two road wins

The Brookhaven Academy softball team picked up two more wins on Tuesday and Thursday to move their record to 5-0 in the first week of their season.
On Tuesday, they went to Liberty to face Amite School Center and returned with an 8-1 victory.
Senior shortstop Annaston Poole smacked a triple and drove in two runs. Leadoff batter Bailey Parks had three of the Cougars eight hits as she scored twice and drove in one run.
BA set the tone early by jumping ahead 4-0 after the top half of the first inning. The Cougars then later added four runs in the top of the seventh to wrap up the win.
Senior pitcher Ann Elise Duncan allowed only one hit during her performance in the circle. Duncan struck out 12 and walked two while giving up one unearned run.
Morgan Chemin, Miriam Wallace, Madelynn Lambert and Alayana Daigle all hit safely as well in the win with Daigle driving in a pair of runs.
The Cougars were back on the road on Thursday to face Copiah Academy in Gallman. BA won that game 16-5 after previously beating Copiah 10-4 on Monday in its home opener.
On Thursday, coach Lisa Covington’s Brookhaven Academy squad held a 6-5 lead through six complete innings, before blowing the game open with a 10-run seventh inning.
Duncan started in the circle for the Cougars and went 4.2 innings. She again struck out 12 batters and walked six while not giving up no hits. Kensy Covington and Madelyn Lambert each made an appearance in relief.
Covington had a monster day at the plate, hitting two doubles and a home run. She led the Cougars with four RBIs in the win.
Swayze Poole also had a four RBI performance on the strength of three hits. Annaston Poole hit two doubles and drove in two runs. Daigle and Duncan both doubled too against Copiah.
Brookhaven finished with 17 hits in the win.
BA will play in Magee on Saturday in a tournament hosted by Copiah Academy. Next week the Cougars are on the road at Centreville Academy on Aug. 6. They’ll then have a break before playing at home on Aug. 12 against Cathedral School.
