BROOKHAVEN — As the dawn breaks and the sun rises, linemen are hard at work to restore power to thousands of residents in southwest Mississippi. A majority of Lincoln County electric customers were spared as the bulk of outages are in Pike and Amite Counties.

Southwest Electric reports 22 customers in Lincoln County are without power, 211 customers in Copiah County without power and 49 customers in Franklin County without power as of 7:25 a.m. Magnolia Electric reports 298 customers in Lincoln County are without power, 182 customers in Lawrence County without power, 2,400 customers in Pike County without power with a restoration of 1,500 from yesterday and 1,500 customers in Amite County without power with a restoration of 2,200 from yesterday.

Fisher Warren, Entergy Customer Service Manager in Brookhaven, reported Copiah County has 85 customers withou power, Lawrence County with 225 customers without power, Lincoln County with 232 customers without power, Pike County with 2,036 customers without power and Walthall County has 271 customers without power.

“We are back to restoration this morning after working late last night,” Warren said. “We have our crews, dispatchers, support personnel and have reached out to contractors for additional assistance to try and make these restoration times a little quicker.”

Storms could return

Severe storms are possible again today for southwest Mississippi and Lincoln County. A marginal risk is posed to the area. National Weather Service in Jackson warns of isolated severe storms which could produce damaging wind gusts and hail up to a quarter size. The storms could reach the area between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Be sure to stay up to date on the weather.

McComb’s weather station does not show any data from 4 p.m. to this morning. The NWS weather station at Hammond Municipal Airport reported sustained speeds of 26 mph and gusts reaching 47 mph around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

It is not confirmed if any tornadoes touched down south of Lincoln County Tuesday. NWS New Orleans reported trees were broken and blocking I-55 and damage from Centreville to Amite, Louisiana.  We will provide updates when they become available.

Call reports from Brookhaven indicate trees were down on Spring Drive, Dianne Drive, Avenue B, Hazlewood Drive and West Minnesota Street between 5:12 p.m. and 5:25 p.m. A traffic accident on US51 was reported at 5:33 p.m and on I55 at 5:41 p.m.
