Reports of hail, power outages as storms move in

 BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County is now under a severe thunderstorm warning and watch. The warning was issued at 10:25 pm and will expire at 11:45 pm.

This thunderstorm has wind speeds reaching 60 mph gusts and hail reaching one inch in diameter. Hail damage to vehicles is expected and wind could damage roofs and trees. This threat is radar indicated.

There are reports of hail in Wesson and northwest Lincoln County. Hail was as big as a quarter in size. Power outages are reported at midnight. According to Southwest Electric, 177 Lincoln County customers are without power. Copiah County has 889 customers without power.

National Weather Service in Jackson issued the watch at 8:15 p.m. and it is set to expire at 3 a.m.

Copiah, Jefferson, Franklin, Lawrence and Jefferson Davis counties are also included in the severe thunderstorm watch.

Severe storms are forecast to roll through the area over night between the hours of 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Storms could bring damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph, large golf ball sized hail and tornadoes can not be ruled out.
