Severe storms expected Friday afternoon

BROOKHAVEN — Gorgeous blue bird skies and sunshine will be in the rearview mirror by Friday at lunch time. The National Weather Service in Jackson warns of severe storms and flash flooding potential Friday.
According to the NWS, Lincoln County is at a slight risk of severe storms with damaging wind gusts reaching 60 mph, hail up to a quarter in size and tornadoes could be possible. The timing of the storm is noon Friday into Saturday morning at 3 a.m. although the timing could change as the severe weather approaches.
A limited threat of flash flooding is forecast for the area Friday accompanying the severe storms. Localized flash flooding is possible in low lying and urban areas. Minor river flooding is also possible. Friday is forecast to have a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Rainfall amounts are currently forecast to be three quarters of an inch to a full inch.
After Friday, there is no chance of rain in the forecast through next Wednesday.
