Local schools compete in Region 4-2A powerlifting meet

The West Lincoln Bears and coach Brad Bland recently finished second behind Richton High at the Region 4-2A Powerlifting Meet. The Rebels from Richton outpointed West Lincoln 60-55. Amite County was third with 38 points, Loyd Star finished fourth with 24 points and Bogue Chitto came in fifth out of seven teams with 12 points.
The Bears got first place finishes in the 114-pound class from junior Hayz Boyte, the 148-class from junior Chance Stewart, the 198-pound class from sophomore Braden Hamm and the 242-pound class from Jacob Thames.
West Lincoln junior Tyler Hall finished second in the 123-pound class, freshman Bricen Hamm came in third in the 181-pound class, junior Rhett Hedgepeth finished second in the 220-pound class, freshman Gavin Porter was the second placed finisher in the 242-pound class and junior Joseph Martin finished third in the 308-pound division.
Loyd Star and coach Dustin Sisco got a first place finish from eighth grader Cedric Sanders in the 308-plus class. The Hornets also saw senior Brayden Rutland and freshman LaJavion Nelson finish second and third respectively in the 275-pound class. Loyd Star eighth grader Pierson Jordan was the third placed finisher in the 114-pound class and seventh grader Zane Rutland came in as the third placed lifter in the 220-pound class.
Bogue Chitto and coach Chad Norton got podium finishes from eighth grader Cruise Carpenter and sophomore Eli James. Carpenter finished second in the 114-pound division while James came in third in the 148-pound class.
The MHSAA 2A South State Meet will be held at West Lincoln on March 2.
