Fred C. McKee

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Fred C. McKee on January 18, 2024, at his home in Brookhaven. Fred C. McKee was born on March 10, 1941, at his parents’ home in Brookhaven. He graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1959. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy from 1959 to 1963 and was honorably discharged. From 1963-1965 he worked for Stahl-Urban. In 1965, he started work for the Brookhaven Police Department as a patrolman and was promoted through the ranks. He was elected Chief of Police of the Brookhaven Police Department from 1989 to 2001. Serving the City of Brookhaven was his love and joy. He enjoyed woodworking, working in the yard, and riding his lawnmower. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Janice L. McKee of 55 years; daughter, Amanda McKee Francis (Chuck Francis); his son, Brian McKee (Julie McKee); grandchildren, Hannah, Cohen, Madison, Taylor, Macie, Meredith, Mason, and Carson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyce and Alma Bentz McKee; his twin sister, Frances McKee; and a daughter, Charity Ann McKee.
Graveside services were held at Easthaven Cemetery (Brookhaven) on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, with Bro. David Fortenberry officiating. The family received visitors on Sunday, January 21, at Brookhaven Funeral Home between the hours of 12 o’clock noon and 1:30 PM. Brookhaven Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
