A Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper suffered minor injuries in a fiery Friday crash.

At approximately 8:38 p.m. Sept. 15, a trooper was involved in a single-vehicle wreck on Hwy. 61 in Wilkinson County near the Louisiana state line while responding to a call, according to MHP Cpl. Craig James.

The 2018 Dodge Charger patrol car left the roadway and collided with a culvert before catching fire. A witness then busted out the side window and helped the trooper out of the overturned vehicle.

The trooper received minor injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by MHP.
