BROOKHAVEN — Swirling wind, cooling temperatures and rumbling of thunder seem to be the runout for a severe thunderstorm in Lincoln and Franklin Counties Saturday afternoon.
National Weather Service in Jackson issued a special weather statement for Lincoln and Franklin Counties as Doppler radar detected a line of thunderstorms spanning from Sontag to Bude. Strong damaging winds are the biggest hazard.
Wind speeds could hit 45 mph and knock down tree limbs or blow over unsecured objects. NWS Jackson warns of a potential of cloud to ground lightening and people are urged to seek shelter.
“If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building,” NWS Jackson’s warning states. “Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.”
There is a 20 percent chance of rain tonight. Check back for more updates as the storm develops.
