BROOKHAVEN — Campers climbed into the cab of a John Deere combine outside of the Lincoln Civic Center and others watched a Mississippi State Extension Service drone fly 120 feet above the earth Wednesday morning. Lincoln County 4H held its annual Ag Camp this week.
Students learned about the soil system with representatives from the Mississippi Soil and Water Conservation Commission, parts of the plant from Lincoln County Master Gardeners and the types of seeds and soils with MSU Extension Agent Tristan Peavey. Scott Smith, a local farmer and poultry producer, taught students about his combine and Louis Wasson, with MSU Extension Service, showed off a drone used to test soil and check on fields.
Food helped teach campers about where food comes from as they made tasty salsa and the layers of soil by making chocolate pudding treat. Enjoy this gallery from Wednesday’s activities.
